Amit Shah to Address Lok Sabha During Debate on Motion Seeking Removal of Speaker Om Birla

New Delhi, Mar 10: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to speak in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday during the debate on a motion seeking the removal of Speaker Om Birla.

The motion was introduced earlier in the day during the ongoing Budget Session of Parliament by Congress MP Mohammad Jawed. The resolution sought permission of the House to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC.

More than 50 Members of Parliament supported the move, after which BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House, granted permission for the resolution to be taken up for discussion. Pal informed the House that around 10 hours have been allocated for the debate and urged members to confine their remarks to the subject of the resolution.

According to sources, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will initiate the discussion, while BJP MPs Anurag Thakur, Nishikant Dubey, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Bhartruhari Mahtab are also expected to speak during the debate. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan is likely to participate as well.

On the Opposition side, Congress MPs Gaurav Gogoi, Manish Tewari, Deepender Singh Hooda and Jothimani are expected to present arguments supporting the resolution.

Sources said that a total of 118 Opposition MPs have signed the motion, alleging “partisan” conduct by the Speaker, particularly after Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi was reportedly not allowed to speak in the House.

While presenting the resolution, Congress MP Jawed also alleged that the Speaker had accused Opposition women MPs of planning a physical attack on the Prime Minister. (KNC)
