Srinagar, May 11: Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat on Sunday said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police remains fully prepared to tackle every challenge and is steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the nation against terrorism, narcotics and organised crime.
Addressing a function at the Armed Police Complex Zewan during the distribution of appointment letters to newly recruited constables, the DGP said policing in Jammu and Kashmir comes with unique and complex responsibilities, including counter-terrorism operations, anti-narcotics drives and maintenance of law and order.
He said the police force has consistently remained at the forefront during emergencies, natural disasters, pilgrimages and tourist movements across Jammu and Kashmir. Stressing the importance of dedication and sacrifice in policing, Prabhat said joining the police force is not merely employment but a service to the nation.
The DGP stated that around 4,000 youth, including over 600 women candidates, have been selected in one of the biggest recruitment drives conducted by J&K Police in recent years. He noted that more than 5.5 lakh aspirants had applied for the posts, reflecting growing enthusiasm among youth to serve in the force.
Prabhat said the induction of fresh recruits would significantly strengthen the operational capabilities of J&K Police, particularly in anti-terror operations in forests, mountains and remote areas.
He also revealed that the process for recruitment of another 6,484 constables has already been initiated to further strengthen the force.
Highlighting the educational background of the recruits, the DGP said many selected candidates are graduates, postgraduates and engineering degree holders, adding that technically qualified youth would be utilised in specialised wings of the department.
Describing J&K Police as a technology-driven and citizen-centric force, Prabhat said the recruits would undergo rigorous training in physical fitness, mental resilience, jungle warfare, technology and modern policing methods.
He urged the new recruits to uphold discipline, honesty and public trust while performing their duties and advised them to maintain respectful conduct with citizens at all times.
Paying tribute to the sacrifices of police personnel, the DGP said more than 1,620 J&K Police personnel have laid down their lives in the line of duty while fighting terrorism, calling it the “golden legacy” of the force.(KNC)
