Anantnag: Patients and visitors at the Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag are facing severe difficulties due to the absence of a dedicated guidance system, prompting widespread calls for the immediate establishment of an internal help desk.
Sources told to NV101 that everyday hundreds of patients from across South Kashmir including peer panchal visits the GMC Anantnag. However, upon arrival, many find themselves lost in a maze of corridors, unsure of where to find specific departments, laboratories, or outpatient clinics.
The lack of a centralized information center means that patients many of whom are elderly, illiterate, or visiting from remote rural areas must rely on hit-or-miss directions from passing staff or other stressed bystanders.
“We spent nearly an half hour just trying to find the ultrasound department,” said an attendant from Banihal. “There are some signboards, but they are either confusing or don’t cover everything. A simple help desk at the main entrance would save us so much distress. He said
The issue is particularly acute during morning rush hours when the outpatient departments (OPDs) are overwhelmed. Patients frequently line up in the long queues, wasting critical time before being redirected to the correct counter.
Meanwhile, Healthcare activists and local citizens have appealed GMC Anantnag administration to intervene swiftly.
