Around 300 tourists were left stranded in cabins of the Gulmarg Gondola on Monday after the cable car system developed a technical fault, officials said. Rescue teams immediately launched evacuation efforts, and authorities confirmed that all passengers are safe.
Managing Director of the Cable Car Corporation, Syed Qamar Sajjad, said the issue was caused by a minor technical snag and there was no major danger. He added that the evacuation process was progressing steadily and was expected to be completed within three to four hours.
According to officials, four specialised cable car rescue teams, assisted by police and SDRF personnel, are carrying out the operation. Of the 52 cabins affected, six had been cleared at the time of reporting.
Meanwhile, Manoj Sinha said he was personally monitoring the situation and had directed the Director General of Police to reach the site. Joint rescue teams comprising Police, Army, SDRF, and district officials are involved in ensuring the safe evacuation of tourists.
Nalin Prabhat has reached Gulmarg to supervise the rescue operation, while Omar Abdullah said the administration is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety of those stranded.
