Srinagar, June 3: Jammu and Kashmir is set to make a significant mark on the global cinema map as the Union Territory prepares to host its first-ever International Film Festival from September 7 to 11 this year.
Official sources said the government is finalizing arrangements for the five-day event, which is expected to attract filmmakers, artists, producers, and cinema enthusiasts from across India and abroad. The festival is being envisioned as a major platform to showcase Jammu and Kashmir’s cinematic potential, cultural heritage, and breathtaking landscapes.
In a key development, the government is expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) to facilitate the successful organization and promotion of the festival. The partnership aims to strengthen film-related activities in the Union Territory and encourage greater engagement with the national and international film industry.
Officials said the event will feature film screenings, panel discussions, workshops, cultural programmes, and interactions between industry experts and aspiring filmmakers. Special emphasis is also expected to be laid on promoting local talent and highlighting Jammu and Kashmir as a preferred destination for film production.
The proposed festival is being viewed as a major step towards boosting film tourism, creating opportunities for local artists, and expanding the region’s presence in the global entertainment sector.
Further details regarding participating countries, featured films, and festival schedules are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.(KNC)
