Srinagar: In a major success against drug trafficking, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday apprehended a government teacher and recovered a massive consignment of contraband substance in the Sangam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
An official stated that a team from Police Post Sangam had set up a routine naka (checkpoint) for vehicle checking at Halmulla Sangam. During the operation, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle.
Upon searching the vehicle and its occupant, security forces recovered 2.5 kilograms of Brown Sugar from his possession.
The apprehended individual has been identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmad Mughal, son of Abdul Rashid, originally a resident of Tangdar, currently residing in the Bemina area of Srinagar. Officials confirmed that the accused is employed as a government school teacher.
The police have seized both the illicit drugs and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime. The accused has been taken into custody, and a formal case under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered. A thorough investigation has been launched to trace the source of the contraband and uncover any larger drug trafficking network involved.
