Srinagar, July 7: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday paid rich tributes to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, stating that he made the ultimate sacrifice for the complete integration of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India.
Addressing a function in Kolkata to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Dr Mookerjee, Shah said his contribution to national unity and integrity would remain a guiding force for generations. He described Dr Mookerjee as a visionary leader whose unwavering commitment to the idea of a united India laid the foundation for several key political developments in the country.
The Home Minister said Dr Mookerjee firmly opposed the concept of separate constitutional arrangements for Jammu and Kashmir and dedicated his life to ensuring the region’s full integration with the Union of India. He added that the ideals championed by the Jana Sangh founder continue to shape the policies and governance approach of the BJP.
Shah also asserted that the BJP Government remains committed to strengthening national security, safeguarding the country’s unity, and implementing its development agenda. Referring to the party’s governance in West Bengal, he said efforts are underway to fulfil electoral commitments and accelerate development under the vision of a “Sonar Bangla.”
During his visit, the Home Minister paid floral tributes at Dr Mookerjee’s residence and recalled his contributions as an educationist, nationalist leader and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, saying his ideals continue to inspire millions of party workers and citizens across the country.
