New Delhi, July 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a nationwide campaign against drug abuse among the youth on August 2, marking a major step towards strengthening the Government of India’s mission of building a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” (Drug-Free India) and realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced.
The campaign, which will be rolled out across the country, aims to mobilise young people, educational institutions, volunteers, civil society organisations and communities to create widespread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse and encourage active participation in the fight against drugs.
According to Dr. Mandaviya, the initiative reflects Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s consistent emphasis on safeguarding India’s youth from the menace of drugs and transforming the anti-drug movement into a nationwide Jan Andolan (people’s movement). The campaign will focus on awareness generation, youth engagement, community outreach and preventive measures against substance abuse.
Officials said the nationwide programme will witness extensive participation from colleges, universities, educational institutions and youth organisations, with volunteers conducting awareness drives, seminars, pledge ceremonies, rallies and community-based activities to spread the message of a drug-free India.
The campaign is expected to complement the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat” initiative, under which youth across the country are being encouraged to become ambassadors of a healthy, responsible and addiction-free society. The government believes that empowering young people to reject substance abuse is essential for achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.
The Centre has repeatedly stressed that combating drug abuse requires coordinated efforts involving governments, educational institutions, families, community organisations and citizens. The upcoming campaign is expected to further intensify these efforts by promoting awareness, prevention and youth-led action against narcotics across the country. (KNC)
