New Delhi, August 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday challenged the Opposition to participate in a detailed parliamentary debate, asserting that the government was prepared to discuss the matter at length and provide answers to all issues raised.
Shah said the Opposition should submit a letter to the Speaker by 2 PM, following which the discussion could begin at 3 PM. He said he was prepared to continue the debate through the night and remain in Parliament until 3 PM the following day to respond to every point raised by the Opposition.
The Home Minister stressed that Parliamentary discussions must follow established rules and procedures, rejecting the demand for merely making a statement on what he described as a serious issue.
According to Shah, a matter of such importance cannot be adequately addressed through a brief statement and requires a detailed debate on the floor of the House.
“I am ready for the discussion to continue from 3 PM today, sitting late into the night and continuing until 3 PM tomorrow,” Shah said, adding that he was even willing to have Question Hour suspended, if permitted by the Speaker, to ensure sufficient time for the debate.
Shah further said he would personally remain present throughout the proceedings, take note of every issue raised and respond to each point so that the facts of the matter could be placed before the people of the country.
He also urged the Opposition to decide whether it wanted to engage in a parliamentary discussion or create disruptions in the House.
The Home Minister maintained that the proposed debate would provide an opportunity to place the complete facts before the nation and ensure that the truth is brought out through a detailed parliamentary discussion.(KNC)
