Just Two CDPOs Managing five Blocks
Anantnag: The implementation and monitoring of child welfare and nutritional schemes across south Kashmir’s Anantnag district face a severe setback due to an acute staffing shortage, with only two Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) currently functioning across eight project blocks, leaving six projects vacant.
Under the Mission Director POSHAN JK, CDPO”s are tasked with supervising grassroots child welfare, maternal healthcare initiatives, and hundreds of Anganwadi centres within each block. With three quarters of the leadership positions lying vacant, the remaining two officers are stretched thin handling additional charges across multiple blocks, causing administrative bottlenecks, delays in grievance redressing, and poor oversight of ground-level welfare deliveries.
Official sources told to NV101 that only two CDPO’s namely Firdosa Akhter and Nisara Deva posted at Qazigund and Bijbehara had given more additional charge of Larkipora, Achabal and Shangus.
Meanwhile, Local stakeholders and civil society members have urged the administration and concerned higher authorities to immediately depute regular officers to the vacant blocks to ensure essential maternal and child care services do not suffer further.
