J&K Braces for Rain, Thunderstorms as Temperatures Stay Above Normal

Srinagar, March 29: Jammu and Kashmir recorded above-normal temperatures over the past 24 hours, with the Meteorological Department noting a significant rise in both day and night temperatures across the Union Territory . Day temperatures remained 3–6°C above normal in many parts of Kashmir and 2–4°C above normal in Jammu, with Kupwara recording the highest temperature in Kashmir at 23.5°C, while Jammu city touched 30.4°C. Night temperatures also stayed higher than usual, with Gulmarg recording the lowest minimum at 2.4°C.

Rainfall activity was observed in parts of the Jammu division, with Batote receiving 37.8 mm of rain and Poonch recording 33 mm. The weather department has forecast widespread light to moderate rain, snow and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 24 hours, with similar conditions expected to continue over the following two days.

Officials have also warned of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions during the coming days, advising residents to remain cautious. For March 30, Srinagar is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall, while Jammu is likely to experience a generally cloudy sky with chances of light rain and thunderstorms.
