Mega Tunnel Projects Approved for Chenab Region, Boost to Connectivity in Doda, Kishtwar, Udhampur

Jammu, Apr 14: In a significant development for the Chenab region, approval has been granted for construction of key tunnel projects on National Highway-244 in Jammu and Kashmir, bringing major relief to districts of Doda, Kishtwar and Udhampur.

According to details available with news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the projects include the construction of the Uni-Directional Twin Tube Sudhmahadev–Dranga Tunnel (12.85 km including approaches) and the Twin Tube Singhpora–Vailoo Tunnel (38.61 km including approaches) at a total estimated cost of Rs 9,779.42 crore.

Union Minister of State in PMO Jitendra Singh termed the approval as “heartening news” for the region and said it puts to rest all rumours regarding the project being shelved.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consistently prioritising development in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also welcomed the approval, describing it as a major step towards strengthening road connectivity and boosting economic growth in the hilly districts of the Union Territory.

In a post on X, CM Omar said, Chief Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude to @narendramodi and @nitin_gadkari for their support and consideration of the Sudhmahadev–Dranga and Singhpora–Vailoo tunnel projects on NH-244.

He said these vital projects will strengthen connectivity, ensure all-weather access, and accelerate economic growth across Chenab Valley and beyond. (KNC)
