New Delhi, June 9: As the Narendra Modi-led government completed 12 years at the Centre, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday praised the Prime Minister’s leadership, asserting that the country has witnessed an unprecedented combination of social welfare initiatives and large-scale development during the past decade.
In a message shared on social media, Shah said that the last 12 years have marked a transformative phase in India’s journey, where efforts aimed at improving the lives of the poor have gone hand in hand with rapid expansion in infrastructure and economic growth.
The Home Minister credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing welfare measures that, according to him, have directly benefited millions of citizens across the country. He pointed out that free food grains have been provided to nearly 80 crore people, while more than four crore economically weaker families have received permanent housing support.
Shah further highlighted the expansion of healthcare coverage through government-backed insurance schemes, stating that around 50 crore people are now covered under health protection programmes offering treatment assistance of up to ₹5 lakh. He also noted that over 10 crore households have been provided LPG connections, reducing dependence on traditional cooking fuels.
Referring to infrastructure development, Shah said the country has witnessed a major push in connectivity, with the establishment of over 90 airports and the introduction of more than 140 Vande Bharat trains aimed at modernising rail travel. He added that approximately 1.45 lakh kilometres of roads and around 3,000 kilometres of expressways have been developed to strengthen transportation networks.
The Union Minister also underlined India’s economic performance, claiming that the nation has emerged as the fastest-growing major economy under Modi’s stewardship.
Describing Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to public service as exceptional, Shah remarked that the Prime Minister had dedicated himself to the nation without taking a single day off during his tenure. He said such achievements become possible only when leadership is guided by integrity, national interest and unwavering dedication.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi first assumed office on May 26, 2014, returned for a second term on May 30, 2019, and was sworn in for a third consecutive term on June 9, 2024, following the BJP-led NDA’s victory in the Lok Sabha elections.
The BJP leadership is observing the completion of 12 years of the Modi government by highlighting what it describes as major milestones in welfare delivery, infrastructure creation and India’s emergence as a leading global economy.(KNC)
