Anantnag, July 12: A joint team of the Wildlife Control Room Achabal and the Duroo Conservation Range on Sunday successfully tranquilized and rescued a female Himalayan black bear along with her two cubs from the Lackbawan area near the Larkipora Temple in Achabal, preventing any untoward incident.
According to wildlife officials, the bear and her cubs had wandered close to the temple premises, triggering concern among local residents and devotees visiting the area. Upon receiving the information, the Wildlife Department immediately dispatched a rescue team, which launched a well-coordinated operation to safely capture the animals.
Officials said the rescue team first secured the area to ensure the safety of the public before tranquilizing the mother bear. The two cubs were then safely rescued, and the entire operation was completed smoothly without any injuries to the animals or members of the public.
Following the rescue, the bear and her cubs were shifted and released into a suitable forest habitat away from human settlements to minimize the chances of future human-wildlife conflict.
The Wildlife Department urged the public to remain cautious and avoid approaching or provoking wild animals if spotted near residential areas or places of worship. People have been advised to immediately inform the nearest Wildlife Department office or control room to facilitate timely rescue operations.
Locals appreciated the prompt response and professional handling of the situation by the Wildlife Control Room Achabal and Duroo Conservation Range, saying the swift action ensured the safety of both the public and the wild animals while preventing any potential conflict. (KNC)
