Poonch, Jul 20 : Seven persons were killed in a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the Loran-Dumilan area of Poonch district on Monday, officials said, taking the death toll in rain-related incidents across the Jammu region to 26.

The landslide occurred amid incessant rainfall, causing extensive damage in the area, they said.
“Seven bodies have been recovered so far. Search and rescue operations are continuing to trace any missing persons,” an official said.
Police, the civil administration, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel, and local volunteers rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations, the official added.
Locals made announcements from mosques to alert residents, as flash floods and landslides posed a serious threat, they said.
Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage, officials added.
Earlier in the day, two persons were killed by falling rocks in the Doda district.
On Sunday, at least 17 persons were killed and several others were reported missing after flash floods triggered by torrential rainfall devastated parts of the Jammu division, including Poonch and Rajouri, officials said.
With the nine deaths reported on Monday, the total toll in the Jammu region due to the two-day rain fury has risen to 26, they added.
Rescue operations are continuing in the affected areas, officials said. (KNS)
