New Delhi, July 8: The Indian National Congress on Wednesday appointed senior party leader Ghulam Ahmed Mir as the new General Secretary in-charge of party affairs for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, as part of a reshuffle in the party’s organisational structure.
According to an official statement issued by the All India Congress Committee, Congress President has entrusted Mir with the responsibility of overseeing the party’s organisational affairs in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. He replaces Girish Chodankar, who was previously handling the assignment.
As part of the reshuffle, Prakash Joshi has been appointed as the new General Secretary in-charge of West Bengal, replacing Ghulam Ahmed Mir, who had earlier served in that role.
The development comes shortly after the Congress appointed Manickam Tagore as the new president of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, signalling a renewed organisational push in the southern state.
The appointments were announced by K. C. Venugopal through an official communication, stating that the changes take effect immediately as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its organisational network across key states and Union Territories.(KNC)
