Jammu, Apr 13: The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday instructed police authorities to compile lists of major drug peddlers at every police station and take swift action to dismantle narcotics networks within a period of 30 days.

Addressing a public gathering in Kathua after launching the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyaan’, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, LG Sinha stressed a strict approach against drug traffickers while advocating a compassionate stance towards those battling addiction.

He said the administration will take tough measures against drug syndicates, including cancellation of passports, driving licences, Aadhaar cards and arms licences of those involved.

The LG asked police to adopt a focused and time-bound strategy to eliminate drug networks, warning that a newly notified Standard Operating Procedure will be strictly implemented to curb smuggling.

He further said that under the NDPS Act, properties of those involved in drug trade will be seized, bank accounts frozen, and detailed financial investigations carried out.

He also highlighted that the campaign will follow a structured 100-day roadmap focusing on awareness, community involvement and long-term sustainability.

Stressing rehabilitation, the LG said addicts should be treated with empathy and provided proper support and facilities for recovery.

He also called on women’s self-help groups to form vigilance teams to monitor drug-related activities in their areas and report them to authorities.
