Kulgam, Jan 22: A massive fire broke out in the Lammer forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, triggering panic among locals as the flames rapidly spread to nearby areas.
Reports reaching news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC) said that the fire was yet to be brought under control, while strong winds and dry vegetation were hampering firefighting efforts.
Locals, along with Forest Department employees, have rushed to the spot and are making strenuous efforts to douse the flames and prevent further spread. Authorities have also been alerted to provide additional manpower and equipment to contain the fire.
No loss of life has been reported so far, while the extent of damage to forest cover is being assessed. (KNC)
