Massive Searches Conducted in Srinagar Ahead of Republic Day

Srinagar, Jan 20: As view of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, Srinagar Police on Tuesday conducted a large scale search operations in various rural pockets of the district to ensure foolproof security arrangements.

According to official, the massive searches were carried out in Takanwari, Karnabal, Shallbug and Bakshipora areas on the outskirts of Srinagar. “Teams of police, assisted by other security agencies, conducted thorough checks of residential houses, open fields and suspected hideouts as part of heightened security measures in the run-up to January 26,” an official told the news agency Kashmir News Corner KNC.

He said these operations are part of routine area domination exercises aimed at maintaining peace and preventing any untoward incident during the Republic Day celebrations.

He added that frisking at entry and exit points of the city has also been intensified, with additional security checkpoints set up across Srinagar.

Meanwhile, police have appealed to citizens to cooperate during the checking and to report any suspicious movement or unattended object to the nearest police station.—(KNC)
