Jammu, Jan 25: Northern Railway’s Jammu Division achieved a significant milestone with the first-ever arrival of an Adani Group cement rake at the Chhann Arorian Goods Shed on January 23, officials said.
The 12 BCN wagon rake consisted of eight wagons of ACC cement and four wagons of Ambuja cement, carrying a total load of around 790 tonnes. Until now, the Chhann Arorian Goods Shed had mainly been receiving cement rakes from UltraTech Cement.
Railway officials said the development marks an important step towards strengthening the logistics and freight infrastructure in the region. The arrival of cement through rail is expected to ensure faster, safer and more economical transportation compared to road movement.
The availability of cement in large quantities through the railway network is also expected to give a boost to infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges and housing in Jammu and adjoining areas.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said continuous coordination with multiple cement companies has made it possible to diversify freight operations at Chhann Arorian.
“Earlier, this goods shed mainly received cement from UltraTech. Due to sustained efforts and coordination with other cement companies, we have now successfully received ACC and Ambuja cement rakes. Further engagement with more companies is also underway,” he said.
He added that the Jammu Division is steadily strengthening its logistics and freight network and is committed to improving services for the entire region.
