Srinagar, June 9: Millions of rupees in local development funds remain unspent or tied up in unfinished initiatives across Jammu and Kashmir, according to the latest performance data from the MPLADS framework. The figures present a contrasting picture of regional governance, where one constituency has pushed through more than half of its approved works, while the other four struggle to clear backlogs.
The data places Udhampur far ahead in administrative momentum. Under Dr. Jitendra Singh, the constituency has successfully delivered 174 public works out of 333 sanctioned. This stands in sharp contrast to the cumulative output of the rest of the territory, where the remaining four MPs combined have completed just 63 projects.
The backlog is spread across both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions:
In Jammu, Jugal Kishore Sharma has 167 unfinished works out of 193.
In Srinagar, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi’s office has 144 pending projects out of 163.
In Baramulla, Abdul Rashid Sheikh has completed just under 10% of authorized works (12 out of 124).
In Anantnag-Rajouri, Mian Altaf Ahmad has seen only 6 out of 66 projects reach completion.
MPLADS funds are directly intended for grassroots public utilities like small roads, water systems, and community halls, low completion rates often translate directly to extended wait times for residents. As these latest figures circulate, elected officials are likely to face growing public pressure to explain execution delays and accelerate pending local works.
