Srinagar, Mar 15: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Sunday forecast continued unstable weather across Jammu and Kashmir till March 20, with intermittent rainfall and snowfall likely in several parts of the Union Territory.
Director MeT Mukhtar Ahmad as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC that rain is currently being recorded at many places in Kashmir division and at a few locations in Jammu division.
He said intermittent light to moderate rain, along with snowfall over higher reaches, is expected at many places between March 15 and 16, particularly till the forenoon of March 16. On March 17, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with chances of brief spells of light rain or snow over isolated higher areas.
According to the forecast, generally cloudy conditions are expected from March 18 to 20, with the possibility of intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall at several places, mainly during night and morning hours.
The MeT department said weather conditions are likely to remain mostly dry between March 21 and 23, while March 24–25 may witness generally cloudy skies with chances of light rain or snowfall over higher reaches at scattered locations.
Advising caution, the department asked travellers and transporters planning to move through higher reaches and key mountain passes to plan accordingly. It also warned of the possibility of thunder and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph at a few places during March 15–16 and again between March 18 and 20.
Farmers have been advised to suspend farm activities from March 15 to 20 in view of the prevailing weather conditions, Ahmad added. (KNC)
