Srinagar, Jan 13: The prolonged search for one of the victims of the 2024 Gandbal boat tragedy came to an end on Monday after the body of Showkat Ahmad Sheikh was recovered from the Jhelum River, locals said.
Residents of the area informed that the body, which had remained untraced since the tragic incident, was found and retrieved from a stretch of the river near the accident site earlier today.
Following the tragedy, elite divers from MARCOS, along with the SDRF’s Quick Response Team (QRT), had carried out extensive underwater search operations. However, despite sustained efforts, the body could not be located during those operations.
