Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated after Donald Trump set a Tuesday deadline for Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz or face severe consequences, warning that failure to comply would bring “hell” and that the United States would strike Iranian power plants and bridges. The remarks were delivered in an expletive-laden post on his social media platform, underscoring a sharp escalation in rhetoric.

According to Al Jazeera, Iranian officials have rejected the ultimatum, stating that Tehran will respond “in kind” to any attacks on its infrastructure, while condemning the U.S. president’s remarks as dangerous and provocative.

The Strait of Hormuz, a narrow maritime passage linking the Persian Gulf with global markets, remains at the center of the crisis, carrying nearly a fifth of the world’s oil supply. Iran’s restrictions on shipping through the waterway have already disrupted tanker traffic and driven up global energy prices, raising fears of wider economic fallout.

Military activity has intensified in the region, with U.S. forces on heightened alert and Iran boosting its defensive posture. Analysts warn that any strike on Iranian infrastructure could trigger retaliatory attacks on U.S. assets and regional allies, increasing the risk of a broader conflict.

With the deadline approaching, attention is focused on whether last-minute diplomacy can ease tensions or whether the standoff will escalate into direct military confrontation with far-reaching global consequences.
