JAMMU, May 21: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday called for a united and determined fight against terrorism and its financial networks, asserting that Jammu and Kashmir must be freed from fear and violence through coordinated efforts and strict law enforcement.
The Lieutenant Governor made these remarks while distributing appointment letters to newly recruited constables of the Jammu and Kashmir Police during a ceremony held in Jammu.
Addressing the recruits, Sinha urged them to uphold the unity and sovereignty of the nation and contribute to strengthening the legacy of the police force through dedication and discipline.
He said the evolving nature of terrorism and security threats requires constant alertness and a high level of preparedness from security agencies.
Highlighting the importance of coordination among agencies, the Lieutenant Governor said intelligence sharing and collective action are essential to effectively tackle militancy and law-and-order challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
Referring to India’s commitment to peaceful coexistence, Sinha said the country continues to face challenges from a neighbouring nation widely accused of promoting terrorism globally. He stressed that newly inducted constables must stand firmly on the frontlines of national security to counter such threats.
The Lieutenant Governor said terrorism survives through financial support, logistical networks and local backing, adding that authorities must identify and dismantle every such structure using the full force of law.
He also emphasized the importance of traditional policing methods alongside modern technology, stating that effective beat policing remains a powerful tool in preventing crime and protecting public property.
Sinha told the recruits that the uniform of the Jammu and Kashmir Police represents courage, sacrifice and service, and urged them to carry forward the force’s proud traditions with honour and commitment.
Praising the police for its anti-drug operations under the ongoing “Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir” campaign, the Lieutenant Governor said the force has prepared a detailed strategy to block narcotics smuggling routes into the Union Territory.
He expressed confidence that intensified action against drug traffickers and peddlers in the coming days would yield significant results.
More than 3,200 newly appointed constables were formally inducted into the Jammu and Kashmir Police during the event.
The ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Special DG Coordination PHQ S.J.M.
