Woman Feared to Have Jumped into Jhelum from Chandanwari Uri Rope Bridge; Search Operation Underway

Srinagar, Mar 13: A woman is feared to have jumped into the River Jhelum from the Chandanwari rope bridge in Uri, officials said on Friday.

They told GNS that the incident came to light after some belongings suspected to belong to the woman were found on the bridge. “A mobile phone and a shoe were recovered from the spot, raising suspicion that the woman may have jumped into the river.”

“After receiving information, a police team rushed to the spot and found a mobile phone and a shoe lying on the bridge,” officials said adding “it is suspected that the woman may have jumped into the River Jhelum.”

Soon after the incident, teams of the police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) launched a search operation in the river to trace the woman.

Officials said rescue teams are conducting searches in the area, but no trace of the woman had been found till the filing of this report. (GNS)
