Srinagar, June 21 : Isn’t it strange how human emotions can change in such a short period of time?
Have you ever written a note in your diary and then forgotten about it? I’m sure we all have at some point, there’s no denying that. The note remains there, waiting to be opened once again by the very person who wrote it while feeling an entirely different emotion.
Then, after a few months have passed, you happen to stumble upon it. As you read through it, you suddenly find yourself thinking:
“Eh, what even is this?”
And that is exactly where the present you becomes distinguishable from your past self.
It is both strange and ridiculous how much we can change ,so much so that we can no longer decipher our own thoughts and feelings from only a few months ago. It can be both a frightening and a hilarious experience to witness. Frightening in the sense that it reveals just how indifferent the human heart can become toward emotions it once held dearly.
You may have written something while drenched in emotion, believing at the time that those words meant more to you than anything else. Yet, months later, upon returning to them, you find yourself saying:
“How pathetic of me to have been in such a state.”
You end up making fun of your own past self thus, the “hilarious” aspect of it all. Hilarious not because of joy, but because of the misery of realizing how unaffectionate and emotionless your present self has become toward feelings that once consumed you.
Back then, while writing those words, you probably thought to yourself that your opinions would never change.
“How could they?”
Not quite, my friend.
It is human nature to forget what we once held close. What once felt sacred can become a laughingstock not to others, but to the present version of yourself. It serves as a reminder that we cannot remain the same person forever. The cycle of life changes us, whether we wish it to or not.
If that change guides you in a positive direction ,if it allows you to remain true to your words and commitments in a healthy and meaningful way then life has matured and nurtured you into a blossoming sunflower, admired by all who see it.
But if that change turns you into an indifferent person, one who abandons commitments and loses sight of what truly mattered, then perhaps you are no more than the withered remains of a once-obedient sunflower ,one that faithfully followed the rays of love, once upon a time.
