World hearing day celebrated at GMC Anantnag With Zeal and Fervor

Principal/Dean Inaugurated a state of the art Audiology lab during the event and dedicated it to the service of people

Anantnag, 03 March 2025: The Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Anantnag and the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) Anantnag, successfully organized a comprehensive event today to celebrate World Hearing Day 2026 on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.

This event aligned with the global theme set by the World Health Organization (WHO): “From Communities to Classrooms: Hearing Care for All Children”. The theme emphasizes preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss and ensuring early identification and care for children with ear or hearing problems. Communities and schools serve as key entry points to reach children, parents, and teachers, integrating hearing care into school health and child health programs to support better learning, development, and lifelong outcomes.

The program was held at Lecture Hall-1, MMABM Associated Hospital, GMC Anantnag, starting at 10:30 AM.

Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb, was the Chief Guest, and she inaugurated Audiology & Speech Rehabilitation Lab (near CT Block). She emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among healthcare providers, pediatricians, audiologists, and community stakeholders to ensure early diagnosis and management of hearing loss.

Screening of a community awareness video followed by testimonials from cochlear implant beneficiaries.

An Informative scientific sessions were also delivered during the programme
Hearing Care for All Children by Ms. Munaza Hameed, Audiologist cum Speech Therapist.

Preventive Ear Care by Dr. Aamir Hafiz, SR, Department of ENT & HNS.

The Role of Pediatricians in Early Hearing Loss Detection & Intervention by Dr. Showkat Hussain Tali, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aamir Yousuf, Associate Professor & Head, Department of ENT & HNS, who acknowledged the support of the administration, collaborating departments, and organizing team in making the event a success.

The celebration reaffirmed GMC Anantnag’s commitment to strengthening hearing care services and promoting early intervention for children across the district.
